In this five-week online course, students will learn some of the fundamental building blocks of playwrighting. What are the key elements of a play? How do we reveal character through behavior instead of description? And what the heck makes something "theatrical"?
By providing in-session writing prompts, out-of-class assignments, and facilitated feedback sessions, Thomson will guide students through the earliest stages of a new draft. By the end of the five weeks, each playwright should have a solid foundation from which to jump to finish their draft--writing a play that comes completely from their heart.
This will be a “fresh idea” course where we use a prompt on the first day that we will eventually draft throughout the five weeks. If you has something you are working on that want feedback, you will have the chance to do so later in the class. All you need is a computer, a writing processor (word, pages, or GoogleDocs), and an internet connection.
